Brian Cohen Guitars: Terms of Trade, 2023
To commission a guitar
- A non-refundable deposit of £1000 sterling is payable in advance to secure any order. (* This deposit can be refunded under certain special conditions).
- Price: The total price will be fixed and quoted in £ Sterling and all an approximate delivery date will given, at the time of the order. I do my best to meet these targets, but reserve the right to extend lead time if necessary due to extenuating circumstances, but I do my best to meet this date. For overseas customers, it it up to the customer to arrange to settle in £ Sterling. Payment accepted via electronic transfer, only.
- Specifications to be agreed in general in advance at time of order but many of these can be changed at any time until construction has actually begun. Some changes may result in additional costs, some will cost less.
- Final payment will be requested 3 weeks before the instrument is due to be completed. All banking information will be provided with each invoice.
- VAT ( Sales tax): No additional sales tax or VAT is applied. Local taxes and import duties may be imposed, this depends on the customer's local tax regulations.
- Price quoted will include a case -normally a UK made 'Hiscox' Artiste: Any other case may be supplied, but this will be added to the quoted price, charged at my cost price. Clients can supply their own case, in which situation £250 may be deducted from the quoted inclusive price of the guitar.
- Shipping is not included in the price, and will be charged at cost- I use FedEx, DHL or UPS, and I will find the best service appropriate to your requirements.
- Price will include a CITES permit, or an Article 10 permit, if needed. Regulations seem to change annually on this. ( Applicable to Brazilian Rosewood mainly). For exports to the USA, the price also includes the paperwork for the 'Lacey Declaration' also<, see note below.
- Instruments come with an insurance certificate, (updated annually for no additional cost, or as needed), a certificate of authenticity, and if requested, photographic progress of the instrument as it is being constructed. You are also welcome to visit during the construction process to see for yourself how things are done, by arrangement.
NOTE: New guitars commissioned are now only available directly to the client. I no longer supply guitars to any dealer, and I pass on the resulting saving in price to the client. All guitars come with the 'lifetime warrantee,' applicable only to the original client.
SPECIAL ORDERS: These include left-handed guitars, multiple string guitars above the 6 string norm, unusual specifications, or guitars using woods I do not normally utilise, eg Cedar tables, or for any custom design not aligned to my normal specifications; for these I take a non-refundable deposit in advance, of 1/3 the cost of the guitar, and the offer for refund on completion if for any genuine and valid reason the guitar is not satisfactory, this offer will not apply in these cases. The client on ordering commits to purchase the finished special guitar. This is because in some cases it is difficult to place these guitars to my usual clients, and the commissioning purchaser must agree to bear this risk.
CITES:. New Cites Regulations were revised in August 2022 especially pertaining to ALL rosewood species, and with new species added. Dalbergia Nigra - Brazilian Rosewood is still on Appendix A, ie full permits needed: All other rosewood species are downgraded to Appendix B, and some have even been removed i.e.Dalbergia Barroni , and for some only article 10 certificate is needed, and this is much less restrictive to export/import for personal use. In some countries , no permit is needed at all, (apart from Brazilian Rosewood.) Please also check with your own countries' CITES regulatory body, to be sure. Each country can vary the terms on an individual basis. I can clarify the position as the delivery time approaches, to be certain.
